The London Vision Clinic team was delighted to be invited to speak at the ZEISS EMEA Cataract & Corneal Refractive User Meeting 2026, bringing together leading cataract and refractive surgeons from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa to discuss the latest developments in vision correction surgery.

London Vision Clinic has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with ZEISS. Professor Dan Reinstein has served as ZEISS’s lead consultant for refractive surgery since 2002 and has played a central role in the development of many of the technologies and procedures used by refractive surgeons today, including both PRESBYOND and SMILE.

At this year’s meeting, Professor Dan Reinstein, Professor Timothy Archer and Dr Glenn Carp contributed to a number of scientific presentations, expert panels and interactive workshops covering presbyopia correction, SMILE laser eye surgery and the future of lenticule-based refractive procedures.

Comparing the Evolution of Lenticule Extraction Surgery

Professor Reinstein delivered a presentation comparing the current generation of lenticule extraction technologies and examining how the field has evolved since the early development of SMILE. As one of the pioneers of lenticule-based refractive surgery, he provided unique insights into the development of these platforms, discussing the similarities and differences between available systems and their potential impact on clinical outcomes.

The session explored the advantages, challenges and future direction of lenticule extraction surgery, highlighting how ongoing innovation continues to expand the options available to both surgeons and patients.

Understanding Why PRESBYOND Works

Professor Timothy Archer delivered a presentation titled Thousands of Eyes, One Vision: Understanding the Mechanism of PRESBYOND and Experiencing its Real-World Success.

Drawing on extensive clinical experience and outcomes from thousands of treated eyes, he explained the principles behind PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision and how the treatment enables patients to achieve a continuous range of vision while maintaining excellent binocular visual quality.

Treating Presbyopia After Laser Eye Surgery

Dr Glenn Carp presented on one of the most common challenges facing refractive surgeons today: managing patients who previously underwent surgery including laser eye surgery, ICL surgery or cataract surgery and later develop the need for reading glasses.

His talk focused on the use of PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision in this increasingly important patient group, discussing practical approaches to treatment planning and how spectacle independence can often be restored while maintaining high levels of visual quality and patient satisfaction.

Building Successful Presbyopia Programmes

Professor Reinstein and Dr Carp also joined an expert panel discussing how clinics can successfully develop and grow presbyopia services.

The session looked at everything from patient pathways and consultation strategies to treatment planning and outcome optimisation. The emphasis throughout was on delivering personalised care while helping more patients benefit from modern presbyopia correction technologies.

Helping Surgeons Implement PRESBYOND

Professor Reinstein chaired an interactive session dedicated to the practical implementation of PRESBYOND in everyday clinical practice.

The session provided an opportunity for surgeons to ask questions and discuss real-world challenges around workflow, treatment planning, nomogram management and patient communication. By sharing the experiences of established PRESBYOND users, the forum aimed to help surgeons introduce or expand the treatment with confidence.

Sharing Experience in Advanced SMILE Surgery

SMILE laser eye surgery was another major focus of the meeting.

Dr Glenn Carp chaired a specialist workshop on advanced SMILE surgery, joined by Professor Reinstein as part of an international faculty panel. The session brought together experienced SMILE surgeons to discuss best practices, surgical techniques and the lessons learned from many years of clinical experience.

Through interactive case discussions, the panel explored how refinements in surgical planning, technique and patient management can help deliver consistently excellent outcomes. The session also provided an opportunity for surgeons to share experiences and discuss approaches to some of the less commonly encountered situations that arise in everyday refractive practice.

As one of the world’s most experienced centres for SMILE surgery, London Vision Clinic was proud to contribute to these discussions and to continue supporting the education and development of surgeons performing SMILE around the world.

Celebrating 30 Years of the ZEISS User Meeting

While the scientific sessions were excellent, one of the highlights of the meeting was the chance to catch up with so many friends and colleagues from around the world.

Many of the surgeons attending have visited London Vision Clinic over the years for training courses, educational programmes or collaborative research projects, making the event feel as much like a reunion as a conference.

This year’s meeting was particularly special as it marked the 30th anniversary of the ZEISS User Meeting. To celebrate the occasion, delegates gathered for a birthday cake ceremony, with Professor Dan Reinstein providing a memorable surprise by playing Happy Birthday on the saxophone as the cake was cut. It was a fitting way to mark three decades of innovation, collaboration and friendship within the ophthalmic community.

Events like these remind us that advances in refractive surgery are driven not only by technology and research, but also by the relationships that bring surgeons together to share ideas and learn from one another.

We are grateful to ZEISS for the invitation and proud that the London Vision Clinic team was able to contribute to such a stimulating and enjoyable meeting. We look forward to continuing to work with colleagues around the world to advance vision correction surgery and improve outcomes for patients everywhere.
