How To Choose A Laser Eye Surgery Clinic
Making the decision to have Laser Eye Surgery can be a daunting one – no matter how safe and effective the treatment is. When it comes to our eyes, you understandably want to be as informed as possible about the procedure – not least to answer just some of the countless questions whirling around your head:
“Which clinic is the best?”; “How much will it cost?”; “Which treatment is right for me?”
Your first instinct is probably to scour the internet for as much information as possible. The world wide web has undoubtedly helped to make our lives easier in recent years. And, just as it can answer our fleeting questions in seconds, it can also be an excellent resource for information on Laser Eye Surgery.
Having said that, the sheer amount of information at hand can actually leave us feeling more overwhelmed than before. Luckily, at the best Laser Eye Surgery clinics, you won’t have to make any decisions alone.
That brings us to the topic of this article: How do you choose the right Laser Eye Surgery Clinic?
Every Patient is Different
At London Vision Clinic, we work hard to create a personalised treatment plan for each and every one of our patients. To meet this goal, we have one of the most thorough initial assessments in the business. Our clinicians and surgeons are always on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding your treatment.
That being said, it is also recommended that you carry out your own research. This is to ensure you are as informed and prepared as possible when going into your treatment and for what to expect during your recovery.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at why it is advantageous to conduct thorough research both before selecting your clinic and before undergoing treatment:
- Some clinics do not treat conditions that are treatable elsewhere (we treat many patients that were turned down elsewhere);
- There are several reasons you may be unsuitable for treatment;
- Certain conditions are only a temporary barrier to surgery;
- Many common questions about the process and procedure can easily be answered.

Choosing A Treatment
While the internet can be incredibly useful when researching Laser Eye Surgery, the chances are, you will be bombarded with jargon, treatment names, and confusing abbreviations that will leave you with more questions than before.
This is a marketing technique applied by many Laser Eye Surgery providers to get more people through the door. But the truth is, most Laser Eyer Surgery treatments are a variation of one of three procedures: ReLEx SMILE, LASIK, and PRK/LASEK.
The Main Laser Eye Surgery Treatments
Here at London Vision Clinic, the vast majority of our patients receive one of the three main Laser Eye Surgery treatments (with 96% being treated with either ReLEx SMILE or LASIK!).
LASIK or traditional PRK/LASEK can be used to effectively treat many cases of short-sightedness (myopia) or long-sightedness (hyperopia). The recent innovation of ReLEx SMILE, however, means we are now able to treat refractive errors in more patients than ever – even those with extreme short-sightedness can now achieve amazing results!
ReLEx SMILE has made it possible to treat many extremely high prescriptions. Previously, many patients with high prescriptions were deemed unsuitable for Laser Eye Surgery treatment and many were thought to only be treatable with synthetic lens implants.
This innovative advancement has also opened up Laser Eye Surgery to those with thinner corneas, contact lens intolerance, or drier eyes.

If you have astigmatism, you may be under the impression that you are not a suitable candidate for Laser Eye Surgery. But this isn’t the case. Here at London Vision Clinic, we can successfully treat astigmatism symptoms using LASIK and PRK.
Astigmatism – when the shape of the eye itself affects the way light is reflected into the retina – is one of the most common refractive errors. Read our article on Why Laser Eye Surgery is a Better Option for Astigmatism to learn more.
In this short video, Mr Glen Carp gives us some insight into the subtle difference between PRK (or LASEK) and LASIK Laser Eye Surgery:
