What Should I Do if I Feel Pain or Soreness After Laser Eye Surgery?
On the one hand. the internet is an incredible source of knowledge and answers. On the other hand, it is a hypochondriac’s worse nightmare.
Other than the somewhat questionable filter of Google, there’s little rhyme or reason to what you see and don’t see. And so when it comes to finding the information you want, the old maxim “seek and yee shall find” bears a lot of truth.
In terms of researching what people experience after having Laser Eye Surgery, you’ll probably find it all. And so the question turns to not what is possible, but rather what is actually accurate in 2019, what is relevant to you and your treatment, and what relates to clinics with the best surgeons and technology.
Consider these questions and you get rid of 99 percent of the information out there. Laser Eye Surgery is a fast-moving and diverse industry, and so it only bears listening to clinics who’re at the leading edge and who, instead of stockpiling profits, rather invest a lot of their time and money back into their treatments and the experiences and outcomes of their patients.
Pain or Soreness After Laser Eye Surgery
It is common to feel pain or soreness after Laser Eye Surgery? The exact answer depends on a number of factors, the most important of which is the treatment you have.
Patients of LASIK surgery, the most common laser correction treatment in the world, typically don’t experience any pain or discomfort. However, patients do commonly experience discomfort after PRK or LASEK surgery. And if you have ReLEx SMILE, the revolutionary new treatment, patients may not experience any discomfort at all.
Mr Glenn Carp shares his expert take on what you should do if you feel pain or soreness after Laser Eye Surgery.
As it is the most common treatment, in the video above, expert laser eye surgeon Mr Glenn Carp is talking generally about LASIK treatment. Traditionally, LASIK patients will experience a little discomfort during the first two to three hours after Laser Eye Surgery.
Mr Carp points out, however, this is typically not something you need to worry about, and in most cases it is pretty mild. You may have a gritty sensation, almost like there’s an eyelash in the eye. In other cases, it may be as though you’ve been chopping onions (don’t worry, even if it happens to you, it won’t be like you’re working in a commercial kitchen but more like you’re preparing a small salad).
If you do experience these effects and they are bothersome, help will be at hand. Not only from the caring clinical staff and your surgeon, but from the topical Voltarol drops which are provided to all patients and which do a great job at taking the edge of. But again, as Mr Carp insists, in most cases any symptoms will settle very, very quickly, within the first hour or two.
