Travelling from Abroad for Laser Eye Surgery? What You Need to Know
Since the London Vision Clinic was founded by world-renowned Laser Eye Surgeon, Professor Dan Reinstein, way back in 2002, we have established ourselves as an international centre for the highest-quality treatment. It’s not surprising then that we receive significant interest from overseas patients who would like to have Laser Eye Surgery treatment at our Harley Street clinic.
But if you’re considering travelling from abroad for Laser Eye Surgery, you will likely have a few questions. Thankfully, we’re always updating our resources on our website to ensure all your questions are answered in as much detail as possible. So, let’s start from the beginning.
Can I have Laser Eye Surgery at London Vision Clinic if I do not live in the UK?
This is probably the most important question on your mind. Thankfully, the easy answer is yes!
If you live abroad or are not a UK citizen, you can still have Laser Eye Surgery at the London Vision Clinic. However, as explained in the video below, we generally require our patients to have at least a one-week stay in the UK; sometimes this could be more or less, so please contact us prior to finalising your travel plans.
Can I apply for finance options if I am not a UK citizen?
At the London Vision Clinic, we offer finance options to allow patients to spread the cost of their treatment. Unfortunately, as explained in the video below, this is not possible for patients who are not UK citizens. This is because we use a third-party organisation for finance options that does not accommodate this.
When will I be able to fly after Laser Eye Surgery?
As mentioned in the first answer, we usually require patients to have a minimum of one week’s stay in the UK when having treatment at the London Vision Clinic. However, you will be fit to fly after as little as 24 hours after your procedure. Of course, this can vary from patient to patient but it is extremely unlikely that you will have to change your travel plans.

Our Overseas Patients
We’re no strangers to welcoming patients from other countries, whether they are UK citizens or not. We have treated people from all walks of life from celebrities to other Laser Eye Surgeons! So, let’s take a look at some patient stories from our overseas patients.
Saudi Laser Eye Surgeon gets treatment for Presbyopia
Laser Eye Surgeon, Dr Baraa Faham, travelled from Saudi Arabia especially to have PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision by our expert surgeon and founder, Professor Dan Reinsintein. Having studied with Prof. Reinstein at the Reinstein Institute, Dr. Faham was well aware that he could expect the very best results.

Travel Vlogger ditches the glasses
Travel Vlogger, Anna Goldman, shares her time living between London, Paris, Rome, and Kongsberg (when she’s not visiting cities and towns all over the world!). But in 2023, she decided she had had enough of her glasses getting in the way of enjoying her travels to the fullest. So, what else to do but travel to the London Vision Clinic for Laser Eye Surgery?
To follow her journey and watch the video diary of her experience with the London Vision Clinic, take a look at our article, here.
As you can see, London Vision Clinic’s worldwide reputation continues to attract patients from all over the world – and with good reason. Just take a look at some of the Trustpilot reviews from some of our overseas patients:
“London Vision Clinic have to be one of the most professional eye care places, ever. They make you feel totally at ease and the whole procedure is painless.
Absolutely magic results with incredible aftercare. Would never dream of going anywhere else or recommending anyone else and I travelled over 4,000 miles just for this.”
– John
“My first contact was through the internet and once I had all the answers I needed I took the plunge and visited the UK for a consultation.
I did this and travelled over from Cyprus and had a thorough and professional consultation and then went ahead with the ”blended surgery”..no pain and instant massive improvement, followed by really top class aftercare.”
– Simon

I fully re-iterate the experience that Jill had...
It was the best thing I ever did getting my eyes lasered by Professor Dan Reinstein.
In February 2006 we had planned a trip around the world and four days before we were due to leave my step daughter was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, so naturally we cancelled our trip and whilst sitting alone watching !0 years younger on the TV, I saw the surgery performed by Prof Dan.. I was straight onto his web site and was SO impressed as I received a questionnaire to fill in and he was not pushy, just making sure that I realised how other opticians may not be qualified like he is. and the questions to ask.
Well a week later I had my eyes done and my husband said he was scared for me. but it was great...and nearly six years on I do not even posses a pair of READERS! and I am eternally grateful to him for making my life so much easier
THANK YOU
I had my lasik treatment in May 2008 it has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I researched it for about three years before deciding on the London Vision Clinic.
It was after reseraching all other clinics and then seeing Prof Reinstein doing a proceedure and talking about being able to blend making one eye short distance one eye long distance that I rang the clinic the next day.
I would highly recommend The London Vision Clinic they were all very professional, but at the same time I felt I could ask any question without feeling ignorant.
Professor Reinstein is so calming and reassuring to talk to that made the proceedure so much easier. I felt I was in very safe hands.
I did have a slight problem the first few times I drove at night with star like shapes around oncoming traffic. I rang the clinic and explained what was happening. They asked me to send a pair of glasses that I had been using prior to my treatment, which I did.
They put a lense in that I could use at night and it stopped the glaring. All this was done free of charge and they kept in touch with me to see how I was getting on.
After a few months I stopped using them as my eyes had adjusted to night driving and have not had a problem four years on.
Thank you all
