What If My Optometrist Finds A Problem I Didn’t Know About?

What If My Optometrist Finds A Problem I Didn’t Know About?

There are many reasons a person might avoid seeing a doctor. It might be difficult to fit an appointment into a busy schedule; perhaps they don’t like the idea of opening up to a doctor or are worried about wasting their time; some may worry about picking up an illness in the waiting room while some simply don’t like the environment.

But one worry that many people share is that the doctor will find a problem that is more serious than the reason you booked the appointment in the first place. Unfortunately, this fear can lead to some putting off regular visits to their dentists, GPs, and optometrists. Indeed, here at London Vision Clinic, we find that some potential patients may delay their initial screening because they are worried about what their optometrist might find – or, of course, being told they are not suitable for Laser Eye Surgery.

Of course, if you visit your eye doctor regularly, then the chances are you should have nothing to worry about; however, if you haven’t, it’s certainly better to find out late than not at all!

The Importance of Regular Eye Tests

Many people don’t realise the importance of regular eye tests. But these appointments are just as important as your annual visits to the dentist. Scheduled check-ups with your optometrist make sure your prescription is up-to-date which could save you from unpleasant symptoms such as eye strain and migraines.

If you have been experiencing symptoms such as red eyes, distorted vision, double vision, or migraines, you should schedule an appointment with your optometrist as soon as possible. Even if you are not experiencing any issues with your eyes, it is recommended that you have an eye test every two years. Not only will this help to identify any changes in your vision and the health of your eyes, but eye tests can also help to diagnose wider health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

If you work in a job that involves sitting in front of a computer for long periods or reading small print, or if your family has a history of eye disease, then you should be especially vigilant about these visits.

Screening at London Vision Clinic

Your initial screening at London Vision Clinic will involve many of the factors checked in a regular eye test (such as visual acuity, pupil response to light, and coordination of eye muscles); however, we will also perform a number of other tests and examinations.

In fact, this will probably be the most thorough eye exam you will ever have! This allows us to check that your eyes are healthy (and provide advice if they are not), and of course, produce a report of our findings regarding your suitability for treatment. While this might be a little daunting, you can rest assured that none of these tests will be painful (we reckon it’s much more pleasant than a trip to the dentist!).

Regardless of whether you are considering Laser Eye Surgery, we encourage you to schedule a visit with your optometrist. After all, it is much better to be aware of any problems sooner rather than later! And, if you’re curious about whether Laser Eye Surgery could be an option for you, why not come and see us for an initial consultation at our Harley Street clinic? We can promise an extremely thorough and detailed eye examination – oh, and 98% of people we see turn out to be suitable for Laser Eye Surgery!
