Decisions, Decisions: Life in the LVC Waiting Room
On any given day, the reception at our Harley Street clinic can be a haven for people from all walks of life.
Some – may be patiently waiting for their initial consultation to determine whether Laser Eye Surgery is an option for them (the fact that they will likely be sporting glasses is usually a giveaway!). Others – probably fresh-faced with a slight look of apprehension -might be nervously anticipating the surgery itself. And still others might be attending a follow-up appointment – most likely free from both glasses and apprehension!
And just as their appearance might differ slightly, so too might their thoughts. For example, each person from the three categories mentioned above will be mulling over their own decisions…
The nervous first-timer
For those undertaking their first visit to the clinic, it is only natural to be nervous. After all, if you’re in this position, you may not know the full extent of the Laser Eye Surgery process or suitability criteria. In fact, you may not have even decided whether Laser Eye Surgery is the right fit for you.
During this initial visit, you’re likely considering a lot of decisions in your head. What questions should you ask the doctor? What questions might the doctor ask you? And what happens if you’re found to be unsuitable for Laser Eye Surgery?
So many questions! And what if you are found to be suitable for laser vision correction? When should you arrange your treatment? Should you bring someone with you on the day of your surgery? Decisions, decisions!
The apprehensive patient
Then there are those who have passed the first hurdle, undergone the extensive testing of their pre-op assessment, signed their consent forms, and are now anxiously awaiting the treatment itself. Having meticulously followed the guidelines given by the clinic, these patients are free from make-up, contact lenses, and woolly clothing and might just be nibbling on some of the complimentary chocolate or biscuits to calm their nerves.
Yet, they may still be considering some decisions of their own. Other than “Is it too late to change my mind?” – which of course, it isn’t (but this remains an extremely rare occurrence!), the apprehensive patient may be deciding their best way to get home should their pre-arranged transport be delayed. Or perhaps they are simply considering what will go in the bin first – the glasses or the contact lenses!
The (slightly smug) post-op visitor
Finally, there are the clear signs of a person who has already been through all the previous stages. The returning patient. Having undergone the procedure already, the returning visitor knows the drill by now. They are likely attending one of their follow-up consultations to ensure their recovery is going as smoothly as possible.
Unlike the previous two visitors, this one doesn’t look nervous. They might even look carefree! And when it comes to their internal decision-making, their only concern now might be choosing a flavour from our extensive complimentary tea collection! Decisions, decisions!
Thankfully, no matter what stage you are at in your Laser Eye Surgery journey – and no matter what type of decisions you are considering – our friendly clinic staff are always on hand to help.
