Can Laser Eye Surgery Give Me ‘Supersight’?

Can Laser Eye Surgery Give Me ‘Supersight’?

Generally speaking, most of us tend to associate lasers with sci-fi movies, futuristic weapons, and even superpowers. So, it can be easy to get somewhat carried away when thinking about Laser Eye Surgery and wonder: “Can Laser Eye Surgery give me supersight?”.

Of course, the answer to this question largely depends on exactly what you mean by “supersight”. For example, if you’re expecting X-ray vision, the ability to shoot lasers out of your eyes, or the potential to see at ultra-long distances, then I’m afraid you might be disappointed. But for those who haven’t clearly spent too much time watching sci-fi films, Laser Eye Surgery can offer a vastly improved quality of life.

A Vast Improvement in Your Vision

If you’re one of the unfortunate people who relies on glasses or contact lenses to correct their high prescription, Laser Eye Surgery results can indeed feel like supersight! After years of blurry or obstructed vision, caused by long-sightedness, short-sightedness, and/or astigmatism, having Laser Eye Surgery can feel like finally seeing the world in 4K.

Expert surgeons can adjust the shape of your eye using state-of-the-art lasers, correcting your refractive error. Just a matter of minutes after entering the surgery room, most patients notice an immediate improvement in their vision. In fact, we’ve started calling this the “wow factor“, due to how often we hear this phrase of amazement in our Harley Street clinic.

Of course, your exact results can vary, depending on the clinic you choose and the extent of your prescription. For example, at London Vision Clinic, our access to the most up-to-date technology and the most experienced surgeons allows us to achieve some of the best results in the country. See Our Results and Stats page to learn more about the results you can expect based on your prescription.

But what are some of the other benefits of Laser Eye Surgery that can leave you feeling like you have a superpower?

Reduced Risk of Eye Infections

For many patients, this is a rather surprising benefit to having Laser Eye Surgery. While you may assume that undergoing a surgical procedure will put you at a higher risk of developing an infection when compared to other methods of vision correction, this isn’t necessarily the case.

In particular, wearing contact lenses regularly can drastically increase your risk of developing eye infections and diseases. For example, contact lens wearers are at an increased risk of developing one of the several types of keratitis (corneal infection), in addition to corneal ulcers. In more serious cases, these can quickly develop into potentially vision-threatening conditions and even blindness.

Research suggests that wearing daily contact lenses puts you at a higher risk of developing infections compared with Laser Eye Surgery.

Enhanced Performance in Sports and Other Activities

Laser Eye Surgery’s ability to help you ditch the glasses is not only beneficial in everyday life, but it can also improve your performance in various activities, including sports. In fact, a huge number of professional athletes have opted for the procedure to enhance their sports performance. Just look at Tiger Woods and LeBron James!

Many swimmers, including Olympic gold medalists Amy Van Dyken and Brendan Hansen, will also tell of the positive impact Laser Eye Surgery has had on their sport. Anyone who has contended with contact lenses or glasses while pursuing their passion for water sports will tell you that they definitely don’t mix!

Other extreme sports, such as skydiving and skiing, can also be much more enjoyable without the worries associated with external visual aids. Being free from such worries opens the door to endless opportunities for trying new sports, exploring new places, and overall enriching your social life.

  • Recently my friend had her Lasik Eye Laser Surgery done and in the starting of 2 months everything was going good even I wanted to have my eyes do a Lasik surgery but after 2 months she started facing some issues like eye pain, you can’t work on computer for like 4 hours etc.Now I am scared of having eye Lasik laser surgery. So will you tell me should I do this or not?

    • Hi John,
Unfortunately, we cannot advise whether you should have the treatment or not without fully assessing your eyes. It is important to remember everyones eyes are different. You may have the same prescription and be the same age as your friend, that doesn't mean you are going to heal at the same rate or have exactly the same outcome. I would recommend your friend goes for a check up if she is experiencing pain. If you are concerned about what the risks would be for you I would have a consultation to determine your suitability and get all the facts.
      Thanks
