Can I Wear False Eyelashes After Laser Eye Surgery?

Anyone who has had any kind of surgery – even one as fast and efficient as Laser Eye Surgery – will likely tell you that they couldn’t wait to get back to their normal routine and start feeling like themselves again. Of course, for many surgical procedures, recovery times can be long and restrictive. But while this may not be the case for Laser Eye Surgery, there are some temporary restrictions that all patients should follow immediately after their treatment.

So, can you wear false eyelashes after Laser Eye Surgery?

Let’s start at the beginning. When you decide to go ahead with Laser Eye Surgery and schedule your treatment, your surgeon will walk you through the whole process, from the procedure to your recovery, and anything you will need to do before or afterwards. This includes avoiding alcohol for the 24 hours before your treatment, taking out your contact lenses (if you wear them), and avoiding make-up on the day of your procedure.

This includes wearing false eyelashes.

Avoiding Obstructions Around the Eyes

During your procedure, we ensure that nothing gets in the way of your treatment – including lint from clothing! This is particularly important in the area immediately surrounding your eyes. For this reason, we ask our patients not to wear any make-up, contact lenses, or false eyelashes on the day of their treatment.

This applies to both self-adhesive lashes and lashes applied at a salon. If you have longer-term false eyelashes applied at a salon, you will need to have these removed before your surgery.

But what about after your treatment is complete?

Again, we ask our patients to refrain from wearing eye makeup and false eyelashes in the days following their treatment. The good news is, that most patients will be able to book that lash appointment after just a week. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to wait a little longer.

For example, recovery times can be longer for patients who have PRK/LASEK. Don’t worry though – your surgeon will be able to provide you with more information and detailed guidance at your post-operative appointments. At these visits, you will be signed off to return to work, get back to driving and exercise, and of course, wear false lashes!
