Monovision contact lenses and LASIK
Monovision is a technique performed to overcome the effects of presbyopia, a common eye condition. Presbyopia literally means ‘old eye’ and comes with age. Presbyopia sufferers experience a gradual decrease in the ability to focus on close objects over a number of years. The lens steadily becomes less flexible and the muscles that pull it into focus become less powerful. This makes focusing difficult and causes near objects to appear blurry. Symptoms usually begin to present around middle age. Monovision addresses presbyopia and can be achieved with monovision contact lenses or monovision LASIK.
PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision and monovision
At the London Vision Clinic PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is performed on patients with presbyopia. PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is not to be confused with traditional monovision where one contact lens is set for near and the other one for distance vision. The difference between monovision and PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is that PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision near eye sees much better at distance than the near eye set with traditional monovision. Similarly the PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision distance eye sees more up close than the distance eye with traditional monovision. As PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is milder than monovision contact lenses or LASIK, far more people are able to adapt to it than to monovision.
Approximately 95% of presbyopia sufferers are suitable for PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision compared to about 50% for traditional monovision contact lenses or LASIK procedures.

I was doing more than 1,500 cataract surgeries per year and was tired of cleaning my spectacles after nearly each procedure. While attending a course at the London Vision Clinic, Professor Reinstein introduced us to PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision. I was really impressed by the results patients showed on the next day. This was not simple monovision. Flying back home I felt that the decision-making process was over for me. In a couple of months I had surgery at the London Vision Clinic. Now, more than six months after surgery, my vision is great, and I can read a newspaper at 15cm. Obviously, I am very glad I did it! – Dr. Teesalu, Ophthalmic Surgeon
