Wearing false eyelashes after Laser Eye Surgery

Wearing false eyelashes after Laser Eye Surgery

We have answered a lot of patient questions and queries during our time as a Laser Eye Surgery clinic. Our specialist clinicians and expert surgeons have likey answered any question you can think of, but some of the most common queries might surprise you.

Of course, we have the ones you would expect:  ‘How long does the procedure take? What are the chances of something going wrong? When can I drive and get back to work?’

But once we have gotten the most obvious out of the way, a whole host of other questions emerges.

Granted, it can sometimes take some time for patients to venture the question that is really on their minds, whether out of fear of sounding silly or discovering something uncomfortable. But, in reality, it is these questions that are often the most important. After all, each patient is different and will, therefore, have different worries and requirements.

‘Will anything actually touch my eye? Will the treatment hurt? What if I sneeze during the procedure?’

Eventually, the questions that have been sitting there patiently all this time will begin to emerge.

‘Can I wear makeup on the day of the procedure? Will I be able to still be able to host my weekly five-hour Battlestar Galactic marathon?

‘When can I wear false eyelashes again?’

You see, a highly qualified and experienced Laser Eye Surgeon is required not only to be an expert in their craft but also in dealing with people. That’s why, no matter how awkward or embarrassed you may feel asking what is really on your mind – take a breath, they’ve no doubt heard it before.

What’s more, Laser Eye Surgery is far from your typical surgical procedure. It’s minimally invasive, can be performed in a matter of minutes, and patients are usually back to their normal routine within a day or two. Therefore, at that moment, when you’ve finally plucked up the courage to ask the question and the future of your eyesight is hanging in the balance, you’re usually met with an answer that brings a smile to your face.

That brings us to one of our most commonly asked questions: ‘When can I wear false eyelashes again?’

Wearing false eyelashes and makeup after Laser Eye Surgery

For many people, wearing make-up and false lashes is a normal part of our day (or maybe week). So it is only natural that many of our patients will wonder when they can get back to normal following their procedure.

As a general rule, we advise our patients to avoid any interference with the eyes following surgery, in order to promote a smooth recovery. Therefore, it is recommended that you wait at least 48 hours before applying any make-up to your face.

However, when it comes to eye make-up, such as mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and – you guessed it – false lashes, it is typically recommended that you wait for a period of seven days following your procedure. These rules should generally be applied unless your surgeon tells you otherwise at your first post-op check-up.

Even once you are given the A-OK to return to wearing your make-up or false lashes, as usual, care should be taken to avoid any further chance of irritation. For example, try not to rub your eyes when removing your lashes or make-up.
