Beauty Blogger Fleur DeForce Talks About Her Laser Eye Surgery Experience
Beauty, fashion and health vlogger Fleur DeForce didn’t have terrible eyesight by many standards, however, having a dislike of using contact lenses, Fleur decided that it was finally time to say ‘goodbye’ to her -3 prescription.
After considering Laser Eye Surgery for many years, and even having made the procedure a New Year’s resolution a few years previously, Fleur finally decided to take the plunge. Why didn’t she do it earlier? Well, the delay was partly due to cost, but also due to not knowing where to go.
Naturally wanting the best care for her eyesight, Fleur decided to save up and do her research to find the best clinic. That’s where we came in.
Laser Eye Surgery at London Vision Clinic
In 2015, Fleur decided to visit London Vision Clinic on Harley Street. She selected our clinic due to its reputation as one of the best clinics in Europe, as well as because of the reputation of Professor Dan Reinstein.
Fleur underwent the innovative ReLEx SMILE procedure – a minimally-invasive ‘keyhole’ Laser Eye Surgery procedure. On the day of her surgery, she filmed a vlog – featured at the end of the video above – documenting her experience.
Fleur explained what to expect from the consultation, treatment and aftercare processes:
“The first consultation lasted 3 hours and was very thorough. I went to see my patient care coordinator and then saw the nurse who performed around 12 different tests to assess my eye health, my suitability for Laser Eye Surgery and which type of treatment I would be most suitable for.”
“The optometrist then went through another set of tests, taking photographs of my eyes and estimating what my outcomes were likely to be.”
“About 2 weeks later, I then went for a preoperative consultation with Professor Dan Reinstein, who founded the clinic, to discuss the Laser Eye Surgery treatment.”
“He explained why it was important to not wear contact lenses in the run-up to having Laser Eye Surgery as they change the shape of the cornea.”
The process on the day, including the procedure, took around an hour and a half. Fleur’s day began with a chat with her patient care coordinator, nurse, and surgeon. She then had a head and shoulder massage to help her relax and then headed into surgery.
The procedure itself took only around 3 minutes per eye. This was followed by some recuperation time and more time to chat with the surgeon.
Fleur was relieved to find that, while the surgery wasn’t particularly “comfortable”, it didn’t hurt at all. Within just a couple of days, and with the help of the drop regime, the improvement was astounding. Fleur is now thrilled to be enjoying crystal clear vision.
