Laser Eye Surgery: How the Process Works at London Vision Clinic

Your Initial Screening
Each and every one of our patients will start their journey with an initial screening. This is arguably the most important step in the whole process as it is at this stage that we gather all the information we need by examining your eyes and medical history.
At London Vision Clinic, we have one of the most extensive screening programs in the game. This involves a wide range of scans, tests and examinations that allow us to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for surgery. Your doctor will then be able to determine which treatment is right for you, based on your prescription and both your overall and eye health.
This appointment also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your treatment. If you are found to be suitable (up to 98% of people are!) and are happy with your treatment plan, you can arrange a date for your surgery – usually within a matter of weeks.
On the Day of Your Surgery
We leave nothing up to chance at London Vision Clinic and nothing we do is redundant. Our main aims are, of course, to optimise safety, planning and outcomes for every one of our patients. To achieve these aims, on the day of your surgery, there will be a number of staff dedicated to a specific area of your treatment.
There will be a nurse on hand to talk you through the treatment itself as well as any aftercare you will need to be aware of. Your surgeon will also be available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. We even have a masseuse who will help you to relax prior to your surgery with a head massage!
We like to look at your treatment from a holistic perspective. This includes doing everything we can to make sure you are as relaxed as possible on the day of your surgery.
Your Laser Eye Surgery Treatment
Once you have been welcomed and put at ease on the day of your surgery, you will be taken into the treatment room. This part of the process can be a little nerve-racking but there is nothing to worry about. Your surgery will have been meticulously planned and tailored to your specific needs and requirements. And if you still have a few pre-show nerves, there will be a comforting little teddy waiting for you.
This may seem like the scariest part, but it is actually probably the easiest. You will be asked to lie back and told where to look. From here, the ultra-precise laser will be put in place and your treatment will begin. You will feel a little pressure in your eye – but this shouldn’t hurt – and within a matter of minutes, your Laser Eye Surgery treatment will be complete!
You will likely notice an immediate improvement in your vision. You may be able to read the time on a clock or watch that you couldn’t see without glasses earlier that very day. However, it is common to experience some blurriness and mild discomfort for the next 24 hours. The good news is that you’re now ready to head home and relax while your eyes start to heal.
Aftercare
Just like our screening process, our aftercare regime is also rigorous and precise. On the day of your surgery, you will have been given your aftercare pack. This is a bag that holds everything you will need during your recovery process, from information and instructions to painkillers, eye drops and even an eye guard.
We will arrange a post-operative appointment on the day after your surgery to ensure everything has gone as smoothly as possible. You will then see your surgeon again at further appointments around 2-3 weeks, three months, six months, and one year after your treatment. This allows us to keep track of your recovery, offer any enhancement procedures from which you may benefit, and keep a record of our patient outcomes.
