The aftercare regime is an extremely important part of the Laser Eye Surgery process. High-quality clinics will monitor your recovery and results for at least 12 months after your treatment.
It can take some time for your vision to completely settle after Laser Eye Surgery. In many cases, it will take months to determine the outcomes of your treatment and whether you may benefit from an enhancement procedure. Your surgeon may offer an enhancement procedure if they feel that more can be done to correct your prescription.
Regardless of whether or not you require an enhancement procedure, your clinic should provide suitable aftercare. Your individual aftercare regime will depend on several factors, such as the procedure you had and your recovery rate. For example, patients who undergo surface procedures such as PRK and LASEK should be monitored more closely in the days following their treatment.
For patients who undergo LASIK or SMILE, follow-up appointments will typically be scheduled at:
- 1 day after surgery
- 1-4 weeks after surgery
- 3 months after surgery
- 12 months after surgery
At these appointments, your surgeon will monitor and talk you through your recovery. You will also be provided with lubricating eye drops and painkillers to help with healing and discomfort.
