What aftercare regime is provided in my treatment plan?
Your aftercare regime is an important part of your Laser Eye Surgery treatment plan. That’s why good Laser Eye Surgery clinics will monitor your results for at least one year after your procedure.
Following your surgery, it will take some time for your vision to fully settle. For this reason, it can take months to ensure your treatment has achieved the desired outcomes or determine whether you may benefit from an enhancement procedure. This may be offered if your surgeon feels there is more that can be done to correct your prescription.
Your exact aftercare regime will depend on a number of factors, including the type of procedure you had. For example, patients who have had a surface procedure such as PRK, LASEK, or Epi-LASIK, should be monitored more closely in the first five days after surgery.
For the majority of patients who have LASIK or SMILE procedures, follow-up appointments will typically be scheduled at:
- 1 day after surgery
- 1-4 weeks after surgery
- 3 months after surgery
- 12 months after surgery
Your surgeon will talk you through your recovery at each of these appointments. You should also be provided with lubricating eye drops to help with healing, recovery and any discomfort.
